Benjamin Mashaya
I made up my mind immediately: sculpting would be my life's career.
Benjamin Mashaya was born in 1986 in Nyanga, a beautiful mountainous region near the Mozambique border, into a family with a strong sculpting tradition. The Mashaya family is one of Zimbabwe’s most respected sculpting clans.
Benjamin was educated in Nyanga, completing his O Levels before leaving school in 2003. He started carving at a young age, mentored by his brothers, who were already successfully established as artists. “I made up my mind immediately,” he says. “Sculpting would be my life’s career.”
His sculptures portray man’s affinity with human nature. He has taken part in several exhibitions and hopes to travel to many countries to showcase his skills.
