About Silent Vigil
Silent Vigil is a one-of-a-kind springstone sculpture hand-carved by Peter Chidzonga, one of the Zimbabwean sculptors represented by ZimCarving. It measures 23 × 16 × 77 cm and weighs 23.6 kg.
Springstone is a dense, hard Zimbabwean stone with a fine grain, which lets a sculptor cut crisp forms and polish them to a deep sheen. Like every piece in our collection, this sculpture was shaped with chisels, rasps and files, then sanded, heated and waxed by hand, so no two sculptures are ever the same.
